Review: Real-Life Devotional Bible for Women: Insights for Everyday Life by Lisa Terkeurst

    June 24, 2013 / 1 Comment

NIV Real-Life Devotional Bible for Women: Insights for Everyday Life by Lisa Terkeurst Reviewed by: Lori Twichell Genre: Non-Fiction Publisher: Zondervan Publication Date: Mar 19th, 2013 My life is really busy. It’s chaotic, full of crazy and very often, it’s hard to find peace. I’ve also had many, many Bibles throughout my lifetime. I’ve had study Bibles and women’s Bibles and small ones and big ones and…you get the picture. The Real Life Devotional Bible for Women stepped out of the mold for me. Short, creative devotionals are peppered throughout this Bible – enough for someone to have a new devotional daily (as the title says) and they are wonderful.…

    Review: Brave Knight Bible

    May 31, 2013 / No Comments

Brave Knight Bible Reviewed by: Lori Twichell Genre: Non-Fiction Publisher: ZonderKidz Publication Date: April 23, 2013 In the past six months or so, my eight year old son has been studying the armor of God, what it means to be one of His knights and everything that entails. It’s become a theme around our house, so when I received word that there was a new Bible for boys called “Brave Knight Bible,” I jumped on the opportunity to review it. This is a compact Bible – it will fit nicely into any boy’s hands for carrying to church or into a backpack. It’s hardcover and it seems like it will…

Do you know who I am?

    May 14, 2013 / No Comments

Recently Reese Witherspoon made national headlines when, during a drunk driving arrest, she asked the police officer that question. She threatened that he would be all over the news if he arrested her and guess what? She was right. Just not in the way she had imagined. Instead of everyone rolling their eyes at the police officer and his actions, the entire country was rolling their eyes at Reese. Suddenly you’re in damage control mode. I admit that I rolled my eyes when I read Reese’s story. In the course of my career I’ve had the opportunity to work with a variety of ‘celebrities’ and I’ve been on the receiving…

    Are you a Bezalel?

    May 6, 2013 / No Comments

Have you ever heard of Bezalel? He’s one of my favorite people from the Bible. He’s not very well known, but where he is mentioned, he totally owns creativity, resources and above all, faithfulness to God’s plan. We first meet Bezalel in Exodus 31: 1-5. Then the LORD said to Moses, “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood,…

    Biblical Messages in Wreck-it Ralph

    April 3, 2013 / 7 Comments

I love it when you’re watching a movie or television program and suddenly the story line or the characters delve into something that’s a deeper truth. You know, something that’s completely unexpected and probably unintended, but shares a powerful message. I’ve seen Wreck-It Ralph several times over the past few weeks but when I was watching this past Sunday, several things hit me all at once about the story. If you haven’t watched the movie yet, there will be spoilers ahead – so consider yourself warned! Okay – still here? Let’s go.

Review: Thomas Nelson’s Compact, Ultraslim Designer Bible

    January 25, 2013 / No Comments

Holy Bible (Designer, compact ultraslim) Reviewed by: Lori Twichell Genre: Bible Publisher: Thomas Nelson Publication Date: October 2, 2012 This ultra-compact version of the Holy Bible is definitely something to behold. Covered in butter soft light purple leather, it’s held closed with a lavender satin ribbon that wraps around a button that looks like a peppermint. The verse from I Timothy 4:12 about not letting anyone despise you in your youth, it’s obvious that this Bible targets tweens and teens. Labeled as ultra-compact (so you know it’s slim and light) you would think that it would be bare bones scripture, but Thomas Nelson has packed an incredible amount of information into…
