Do you know who I am?

mg1Y7TARecently Reese Witherspoon made national headlines when, during a drunk driving arrest, she asked the police officer that question. She threatened that he would be all over the news if he arrested her and guess what? She was right. Just not in the way she had imagined. Instead of everyone rolling their eyes at the police officer and his actions, the entire country was rolling their eyes at Reese. Suddenly you’re in damage control mode.

I admit that I rolled my eyes when I read Reese’s story. In the course of my career I’ve had the opportunity to work with a variety of ‘celebrities’ and I’ve been on the receiving end of that question. It’s not often that I’m thinking that but you know, it does happen every now and then.

I realized another layer to that question. We all have come under spiritual attack. Satan does his best to undermine our efforts, our emotions, and our daily lives. Whatever he can do to get us off track, he will. It’s his sole purpose for existence to mess us up and get us deviated from God’s plan.  So what can we do about that?

We should be on satan’s case every day reminding him who we are.

Deuteronomy 28 says that we are:

  • We are the head and not the tail.
  • Blessed in the city and blessed in the country.
  • Set high above all of the nations on earth.
  • Blessed when we come in and blessed when we go out.
  • All of the peoples on earth will see us and know we are blessed.
  • Our work will be blessed.
  • Our children will be blessed.
  • Our enemies will scatter.
  • Our homes will be blessed.

And I personally like this one:

The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands.
We should be standing up every day, in his face and screaming, “Do you know who I am?”

Next time  you come under a spiritual attack and have troubles, remind yourself – and satan – who you are. You are a child of the King! Take on the authority God has given  you and put satan under your heel!
