Hallmark is the best channel for Christmas

    November 6, 2017 / 2 Comments

Confession: I’m a sucker for Christmas. And Christmas movies? Oh yeah – I can watch them year round. (I even wrote one! Of course I love them!) My favorite holiday paired with sweeet movies too?? SLAM DUNK, PEOPLE. Seriously! So when Hallmark reached out to me about this new movie, I wasn’t about to say no! Can you feel it? That little edge of crispness in the air and the undercurrent of excitement in the stores? The holidays are right around the corner and you know what that means. Decorations, baking and family? Uh…no. It’s time to tuck into snuggly pajamas, grab a steaming cup of cocoa and curl up…

Guest Post: Sexy Velvet (Alkaline) Water

    September 1, 2017 / No Comments

by Mike McKeown If you’ve been following along here, you know that in recent weeks I’ve been discussing different aspects of anxiety. This is something I’ve run into more times than I can count during my years as a counselor. Often, anxiety is either the directly the cause or a major symptom of whatever has brought the person into counseling. In the first article, Anxiety 101, I went over the idea that not all anxiety is bad. Sometimes we need a low level of anxiety to move forward in our lives. In the second article, Take Back Your Control, I discussed how anxiety can consume our thoughts and what we…

Review: Ash and Quill by Rachel Caine

    August 11, 2017 / No Comments

Ash and Quill by Rachel Caine Genre: fantasy, suspense, adventure, drama Publisher: Berkley Date: July 11, 2017 What if a library was the master of everything? Imagine governments around the world all controlled by a library. The Great Library in fact.  But rather than dispensing knowledge and understanding, the Archivist is a dictator. Wisdom, free thought, invention and knowledge are ideas that are tamped down, held tight, and not released outside the control of the Great Library. In fact, the printing press is something that is so dangerous an idea, that men and women have died for just coming up with the idea of it. Under this tremendous tyranny and…

Subscription Box Review: Once Upon a Book Club

    July 3, 2017 / No Comments

You guys know I love subscription boxes. I mean I really, really love them. I think it is really cool to get a box every month and be surprised by what is inside. Unfortunately, you can’t always guarantee that a box is good. Sometimes you get duds. Seriously I got a box once that had all this stuff free floating in it – looked like someone had cleaned out their junk drawer! I also love books. That’s a fact that is pretty well documented by the fact that I own Fiction Addict and Radiant Lit. At the beginning of the subscription box phase, I tried a couple of book themed…

    June 30, 2017 / No Comments

Bring Her Home by David Bell Genre: contemporary, thriller, suspense, mystery, drama Publisher: Berkley Date: July 11, 2017 Bill Price’s life isn’t extraordinary in the least. At best, you could call it a struggle. Bill’s wife died 18 months ago and left him with a teenage daughter. His daughter Summer, and her best friend Haley, go missing. Days after they’ve gone missing, life takes another sharp, painful curve. Summer’s…

Book Review: The Burning World by Isaac Marion

    June 27, 2017 / No Comments

The Burning World by Isaac Marion Genre: science fiction, romance, drama, Publisher: Atria Date: February 7, 2017 R and Julie live in chaos and upheaval.  Normal for them would be considered absolute horror for the rest of us.  Cataloging whether someone is completely dead, almost dead, or living is part of their every day. Throw in the fact that they are in a daily fight for survival and it’s not exactly what you could call ideal. But they make it work and together they have carved some semblance of a life. It’s an existence and for R (who remembers being dead not so long ago) it’s as close to heaven…
