Flashback: Happy to be ‘just a spouse….’

    November 19, 2016 / 1 Comment

This morning when I got on Facebook, it reminded me of my memories from this date over the years. I do love this about Facebook and often, it brings to mind those daily treasures that too often are forgotten. On this date in 2010 though, there was a pretty powerful memory that I felt needed to be shared. again. Especially in light of our current situation.  Rather than hit the share button on Facebook, I decided to put it here on my blog. So I beg your indulgence as I share a memory from November 19, 2010. Please excuse this space for a little therapy since I can’t afford (and…

    My 9/11 story

    September 10, 2016 / 4 Comments

Tomorrow, everyone will be talking about 9/11. And that’s as it should be. September 11, 2001 changed the landscape of the United States forever. Thousands of people lost their lives in just a few hours time on American soil. Not since Pearl Harbor had that happened. And now, 15 years later, a younger generation is coming up that doesn’t remember the world before 9/11. I thought it was a good time to share. The morning of September 11, 2001, I was pregnant with my second child and still working on settling into our new location.  I was a military spouse, freshly moved to New Jersey. I had no friends in…

Guest Post: Three Ways to Pray for Our Military

    June 9, 2015 / No Comments

After my American Sniper post the other day, I had a lot of discussion (via email, Facebook, and Twitter) about the dynamics of the military family. So when I received this article about praying for the military family, I thought it would be a good fit! THREE WAYS TO PRAY FOR OUR MILITARY By Jeremy Stalnecker I am often asked what can be done to support the men and women of our military.  While there are a lot of good answers to that question, care packages are always appreciated especially if they have chocolate chip cookies, some answers may be more helpful than others. As people of faith we believe…

What American Sniper Taught Me About My Marriage

    June 1, 2015 / No Comments

I’ve been a military spouse for 18 years. My husband has technically been out of the military for about two years, but I’ll explain my reasoning for using present tense in a bit. With all of those years of experience, I am able to say that I know a little about being a military spouse. I’m not saying that facetiously either. I am well aware that my experience as a spouse is not the same as many other spouses and that the world of military spouses is far larger than just my bubble of knowledge. I know just enough to understand that I have a deep respect for every military…
