Who is the target audience on YA books?
I’m supposed to write a review of this book. I’m struggling with it honestly. I’ve written tons of reviews, but this one has me completely stymied. “Why?” you may ask, “Was it a bad book?” No. Actually it was really good. REALLY good. There was a lot of suspense and some really great plot twists. It was full of serial killers and crime scenes that would make the writers of CSI and Criminal Minds salivate with delight. My problem with the book is that the target audience is 12-18 year olds. I’ll let that sink in again. The book about serial killers that I just finished reading was targeted to…

What Does Your Spirit Say About It?
Recently a friend of mine posted a question through social media asking Christians whether or not they ‘celebrate’ Halloween. The answers came fast, furious, and with a little more bite than I think she was expecting. There was a good range of answers from just yes to not even a chance and everything in between. What surprised me most was a comment that she made within the discussion. She said that she couldn’t find any biblical references to Halloween in particular, but it just ‘felt wrong’ so she wondered. That piqued my interest. To me, the answer of what she should do was pretty plain in that comment. It felt…

Behind the Scenes vs. Highlight Reel…How Do You Compare?
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3 This week I posted an article about the dangers of comparison marketing. When you’re looking at someone else’s company or marketing plan and trying to replicate what they’ve done, it will only create frustration. Their plan isn’t yours and it’s not designed for your business. I experience this more often on a personal level. Women in particular, tend to look at other people and compare their lives to others. I know many women who are extremely candid when they do this. Walking into a room or a situation, often women will ‘size up’ the rest of the…

The Dangers of Comparison Marketing (From Beyond The Buzz Marketing)
Are you concentrating on your own goals or working on someone else’s? One of the most common issues that I encounter when consulting in business or mentoring on a personal basis is comparison. It also happens to be one of the most detrimental things we can deal with in our lives. The internet has created a ripe field for comparing our lives and businesses with others and when that happens, we always come out lacking. Most of the time, it’s apples and oranges. Even in business. I encourage people to keep an eye on what competitors are doing and to even check out other websites and blogs that they enjoy…

Facebook Official Page: Can it replace a website for your company?
Recently I had a client mention to me that they had no interest in developing their own website for their company. The reasoning behind this was that they have a Facebook Official Page and that, in their mind, served their purpose. After all, it’s got their logo/branding on it, they interact daily with their customers, and the biggest reason; it’s cheap. Though I understand all of those points (and trust me – they are valid), when you weigh out the pros and cons, it just doesn’t add up. Here are a few things to consider.
