Friendship, movies and fun…

In our house, we speak movie. Like almost literally. A few years ago when my in-laws came to visit, it really hit home for me how much we love and speak movies. They were confused for many of our conversations because my kids would throw in movie quotes left and right. The problem came in when we realized my father and mother-in-law hadn’t seen the movies! Made for some very confused and interesting conversations.

So all of that said, I just basically wanted to intro a movie my entire family is looking forward to watching; Smallfoot. Have you seen the trailer for this one? The general premise takes sasquatch/Bigfoot and turns the entire thing upside down. In this one, sasquatch exists but humans are the myth. Here’s the trailer:

From what I’ve heard, the film focuses a lot on friendship. I love that. Friendships are what keep me going. You see, I’m a hardcore shipper. (Do you guys know what that is? It’s someone who loves the relationships in movies, books or TV shows. Whenever you hear that term it’s usually regarding a romantic relationships and most often, it’s about fictitious characters, but it is possible to ‘ship’ real life people and friendships.) One of my favorite relationships to watch develop on the screen or through books is a deep, life long friendship. Anyone ever watch the TV show Farscape? The bonds developed on that show remain some of my favorites. Especially John Crichton and D’Argo.  That friendship is amazing to watch unfold over the course of a series.

Friendships are vital to me. I’m an extrovert and I love people. I tend to bond real, deep, and hard too. (I took a Meyers-Briggs personality test and it underscored a lot of this for me. More about that test and my results coming soon!) This has caused me some issues in the past – especially in the film industry. I found out pretty quickly that many people will be your BFF during production and maybe release, but they just want the surface connections after. I don’t work that way. If we bond (no matter whether it’s a movie set or not) you have me in your corner for the duration. It takes a lot for me to ever say goodbye to a friendship or let someone ‘fall by the wayside’. I just don’t work that way.

A few years ago, during my cancer journey, friendships were what kept my family and I afloat during treatments. I couldn’t speak for nearly a year. Didn’t eat. But yet my friends stuck by and found ways to support me and lift me up. Friendships are the foundation of a great deal of who I am and I cherish every single one of them deeply.  So when I received an email about this upcoming movie and the strong bonds of friendship it highlights? Oh yeah! I’m definitely going to check this one out!

Here’s the official synopsis by the way:
